Capturing a Venue#
Capture produces a DWG of the surfaces that enclose a venue, for import into acoustic simulation software.
The venue is identified by a scope box and an origin. The application finds the walls, floors, ceilings and other surfaces that enclose it and writes them to a DWG.
The exported surfaces are the model's own geometry. Nothing is redrawn or approximated — a wall face is exported as that wall's face. The application determines which faces bound the room.
The steps#
Work through these in order.
- 1. Prepare the model — what to check before starting.
- 2. Place the scope box — name the venue and bound it.
- 3. Place the origin — set position and orientation.
- 4. Capture the venue — run the capture.
- 5. Check the result — confirm the correct room was captured.
- 6. Surface layers — organise surfaces for material assignment.
- 7. The DWG export — what is produced, and how to import it.
See Defining a venue for the elements a venue consists of, or the walkthrough for the same workflow as a worked example.
A first capture commonly identifies conditions in the model that need correcting, such as a wall that does not meet a floor or a link that was not loaded. Capture may be re-run as often as required; results are replaced rather than added to.
