Update Row#

Overview#

Update Row respaces the seats in a row after changes have been made to the row's geometry. Common scenarios:

  • The row reference line has been manually lengthened or shortened.
  • Seats have been manually moved or deleted, leaving the row out of alignment.
  • A design change requires the row to be recalculated with its current seat types.

Selecting seats#

Select one or more seats in the model to identify which rows to update, then click Update Row in the ribbon. The command identifies the row reference line for each selected seat and processes all affected rows.

Behavior without a dialog#

If the existing seats already fit correctly within the row reference line length and no space is available for additional seats, the seats are respaced silently — deleted and re-placed at their recalculated positions with no dialog shown. This quickly corrects minor position drift after manual edits.

The Update Row dialog#

If one or more rows need actual adjustment — because seats exceed the row length or because there is enough unused space to fit additional seats — the Update Row dialog appears with a summary of the situation, for example:

"2 rows exceed their row length (up to 3.5" over). 1 row has 4.2" of unused space."

Adjust seat widths to fit#

When checked (default), seats may change their type within their own family to help the row fit within the reference line length.

Allow seat count change#

When checked (default), seats may be removed to reduce total width, or added to fill unused space. When unchecked, seat count is preserved and only width adjustment is used.

Preserve row parity#

When checked (default), any seat count changes maintain the original even/odd seat count for each row.

Results#

A summary dialog reports which rows were successfully updated and which could not be adjusted. As with Replace Seats, element IDs for all seats in processed rows will change.

Tip

If a row has been significantly changed and Update Row cannot find a suitable solution, consider using Replace Seats for more precise control over the replacement.
