Room Orientation#

House Left and House Right#

While Performance Seating can be used for many venue types — theatres, auditoriums, ballrooms, stadiums, conference rooms — it uses the terminology of a performance space to describe seat orientation.

House Left is the patron's left side when facing the performance area. House Right is the patron's right side when facing the performance area.

This orientation is primarily used to determine which end of a row the seat numbering sequence begins from, and to identify which end-aligned reference lines are on which side of the room.

Seating Rows

How the application determines orientation#

The position of the focus point relative to the row reference line is used to establish orientation. The application identifies which end of the reference line is closer to the focus point and uses that to determine the House Left / House Right relationship for each row.

For this reason, it is important that the focus point be placed toward the center of the room relative to the rows it serves. See Focus Points for guidance on placement.
