Settings#

The Settings window is accessed from the Settings button in the ribbon's Settings panel. It is organized into five tabs:

Tab Purpose
Seat & Row Identifiers Seat numbering and row identifier schemes
User Defaults Default calculation preferences, floor distance, and auto-update behavior
Project Defaults Reference line styles, naming conventions, and views
Application Settings Family file location, seat movement tolerance, and project initialization
License License activation, status, and renewal

How settings are saved#

Changes made in the Settings window are not applied until OK is clicked and the save confirmation is accepted. Clicking Cancel reverts all changes to their previous values.

Most settings are not accessible until a project has been initialized.

Setting categories#

Settings fall into three categories based on where they are stored:

Project Settings are stored in the Revit model after initialization. These include seat numbering schemes, row identifier schemes, and default naming conventions. They can be saved as defaults for future projects by clicking Set As Default.

User Settings are stored in a settings file on the user's machine, independent of any Revit project. They persist across sessions and apply to all projects for that user. These include default calculation preferences and miscellaneous options.

Application Settings control add-in operation and are generally only changed when directed by Performance BIM.
